Universal access to healthy neighborhoods
Green circle reading: By 2018, green construction in the US will contribute 1.1 million jobs and more than $75 billion in wages.
Does your local grocery store sell fresh produce? Does your neighborhood have jogging and bike trails? What materials were used to build your home? All of these can determine the healthiness of your environment as well as your personal health. Residential green construction is booming; in fact, the U.S. Green Building Council expects the industry to be worth more than $100 million by 2018.

NeighborWorks and its network are committed to making sure that healthy communities are not determined by zip codes.

Ever wonder just how healthy your home, office or school actually is? Just like you can get nutrition information for most of the foods you eat, similar data now are available for building supplies. A new web-based tool called Portico is taking the guesswork out of finding healthy construction materials.
