Technology has made our lives easier by connecting us to the internet, to each other and to services like banking and taxis. Some digital innovations are even improving housing services. Unfortunately, however, access is a challenge for some, including rural areas. According to the Pew Research Center, a third of U.S. adults do not have high-speed internet at home. Internet expands reach of housing services for Wyoming residents

Wyoming is the nation’s least-populated, and thus most “dispersed,” state, but 74 percent of residents are connected to the internet in their homes. NeighborWorks member Wyoming Housing Network is using the internet to provide housing counseling and other services to far-flung rural residents.

Internet use among those 65 and older is growing. For those who do use it, more than 70 percent log on every day and 34 percent use social media. Many are going online to stay connected to loved ones who may live far away. Studies show going digital also helps reduce loneliness and isolation. NeighborWorks network member Affordable Housing Alliance has a unique program that not only helps seniors stay connected, but also provides them with cool gadgets and tools.
