The last Monday of the month–Memorial Day—is dedicated to honoring American soldiers who have died in war while serving the United States.

NeighborWorks America salutes these war heroes and honors the service of all veterans in this issue. We highlight how our network organizations are meeting the needs of former service members around the country.

Home maintenance and upkeep can be a challenge for many. Network member Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks brought together a coalition of nonprofits, government agencies and volunteers to help veteran homeowners in need.

For more than two decades, NeighborWorks Southern Mass has supported underserved veterans by developing properties specifically intended to house those who are homeless. The organization has transformed many vacant, blighted neighborhood eyesores into new, energy- efficient homes and green spaces to support formerly homeless service members.
