NeighborWorks Works - a weekly newsletter spotlighting the NeighborWorks network
Holidays are especially sweet in a new home
This month, families across the country are decorating their homes to get into the holiday spirit. In fact, a recent survey by the Washington, D.C.-based National Retail Federation estimates that U.S. consumers will spend an average of $967 this holiday season for food, gifts and other purchases, including $58 for decorations to deck the halls.

And thanks to the efforts of NeighborWorks America and its network members, many families are celebrating this year in a new home.
Two moms celebrate new homes and new friendship
When two single moms in Montana turned to NeighborWorks Great Falls to help them achieve homeownership, they got more than new homes in time for the holidays. Along with the sweat equity, support and guidance gained through the NeighborWorks' Owner Built Homes program, the new next-door neighbors also built a strong bond of friendship.
Financial wellness program helps Texas family become homeowners
The stockings are hung and ready for Santa. The Castillo family of Brownsville, Texas, moved into a new home just after Thanksgiving, thanks to resources provided by the Community Development Corp. of Brownsville, a NeighborWorks network member.

Through its La Puerta financial wellness program, the nonprofit helps families prepare for homeownership with free workshops and one-on-one counseling sessions.
Detroit couple and grandson reunite in time for the holidays
After being separated from their 14-year-old grandson for nearly 12 years, a Detroit couple found him in foster care and planned for adoption. To complete the process, however, the couple needed to purchase a house.

The long-awaited family reunion in a new home was made possible in time for the holidays by Detroit-based Southwest Solutions and HomeLIFT, a national program from Wells Fargo and NeighborWorks America.
