NeighborWorks programs actively support older Americans |
The number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double from 46 million today to more than 98 million by 2060, according to a report from the Population Reference Bureau. "Although U.S. policymakers and others have had many decades to plan for the inevitable aging of the baby boom cohort, it is not clear that sufficient preparations have been made to meet baby boomers' anticipated needs in old age," the report's authors note. |

NeighborWorks America and its member organizations recognize the importance of helping older adults make safe, informed and healthy decisions, including aging in their own homes. In fact, the NeighborWorks network served more than 7,100 homeowners over the age of 55 with services that included refinancing, reverse mortgages, foreclosure mitigation counseling and obtaining rehabilitation loans in fiscal year 2017. NeighborWorks members also provided more than 958,000 seniors with transportation services, nutrition and wellness programs and education opportunities. Programs such as these allow seniors to remain healthy, active and productive for as long as possible, which is a winning scenario for the entire community.
